German anesthesiologists support their ukrainian colleagues. Anesthesiologists send a call for help and an appeal from the war zone. As soon as there are precise requirements, help will be delivered
Nuremberg. German anesthesiologists point to the difficult and threatening situation of their ukrainian colleagues: „They have to continue their work, risking their lives in the operating rooms and intensive care units while caring for the wounded.“ the president of the german association „Deutsche Gesellschaft für Anästhsiologie und Intensivmedizin“ (DGAI) Professor Dr. med. Frank Wappler says. „These days we stand close to the people in Ukraine and our colleagues there.“ professor Dr. med. Götz Geldner, the president of the „Berufsverband der Deutschen Anästhesisten“ (BDA) adds.
„Civilians, children and elderly people die“
In a powerful message ukrainian anesthesiologists addressed their colleagues worldwide. Professor Oleg Loskutov from the medical professional society of anesthesiologists in Ukraine writes in an E-Mail: „Civilians, children and elderly people die.“ The ukrainian colleagues appeal to take every possible action to maintain the independence and freedom of their country and to save lives.
Help, wherever it is needed
Currently german anesthesiologists discuss, how they can help their ukrainian colleagues effectively. Donations of consumables, medication and medical equipment would be conceivable: „We are in contact with our ukrainian colleagues and try to help wherever it is necessary.“ BDA-president Geldner explains. „At the moment we wait for requirements.“
Help is also offered for the transport of injured to Germany
Other considerations for help are still at the beginning, describes DGAI president Wappler. Now it is necessary to determine, what help is needed and to react purposefully. It is possible that injured people and other patients will soon have to be brought to Germany for further supply. In this case german anesthesiologists could give support with their experience as emergency physicians and intensive care physicians.
BDA and DGAI appeal to the world community to do everything imaginable to prevent further bloodshed, injuries and deaths in Ukraine and to restore peace and security in Europe and the world.
